Edison Chen Testifies In Court

Asian pop star Edison Chen, who fled Hong Kong in disgrace last year after nude photos of himself with several female celebrities were posted on the Internet, testify in an unusual court hearing started Monday in Vancouver. Chen's trouble began after he took his broken laptop in for repairs in Hong Kong. Shortly afterwards, explicit photos of him with different women, some identifiable as famous actresses, singers and models, began appearing online. After months of silence, Chen, a singer and actor who grew up in Vancouver, Canada and is one of Asia's most recognized celebrities, was to testify before a Hong Kong judge and lawyers over five days. The testimony had been expected to last five days, but both the prosecution and defense completed their questions Monday. Chen return Tuesday to read and sign the court transcript.

A Canadian judge and Hong Kong's chief magistrate will be co-commissioners at the hearing as Hong Kong police question Chen. Chen was ordered by the judge to answer a question raised by the defendant's lawyer to identify the four women in the string of sex photos. The four names are: Cecilia Pak-Chi Cheung, Gillian Yan-Tung Chung, Bo Bo Man-Wun Chan and Rachel Sze-Wing Ngan. His private sex pictures with several Hong Kong starlets set off an Internet firestorm but now he says he hopes the women involved will soon put this behind them. Edison Chen made the comment as he emerged from a British Columbia Supreme Court.

The hearing is taking place in Vancouver because Edison Chen, 28, fearing for his safety refused to return to Hong Kong to give evidence at the trial of computer technician Sze Ho-Chun, who is facing charges of distributing via the Internet pictures of the actor having sex with female celebrities. On the second day of the hearing, Chen added that 40 photos were all taken by ONE woman who had an affair with him in 2003. Guess who? The married one with the cuckold husband who had to get his baby DNA tested!

Chen says he was shocked when private photos of him appeared on the Internet, causing a sex scandal "This is part of the judicial proceedings. Since the proceedings are in progress, no further details can be disclosed," an official with the Hong Kong police said in an email to the Toronto Star. While Chen admitted that most of the 328 photos submitted in court today were taken by him, he claimed 40 of them were taken by the women in the photos. Chen's international fame skyrocketed after the photos appeared and Google said last December his name was the most searched term in Asia in 2008. Edison Chen's name was searched for more in the Chinese speaking world last year than the Beijing Olympics, the devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan province and the tainted milk scandal. Chen told a crush of Chinese media outside the Vancouver court that he hopes every victim will recover and that their well-being is more important than his.

$500,000 Reward for Edison Chen’s Hand

First, Hong Kong triad gangsters were said to want actor Edison Chen dead. He fled Hong Kong at the outset of the scandal after early rumors that someone had given the 'underworld order, to kill' him.


Now, word has it that another underworld figure has offered a HK $500,000 (US $91,000) reward to hack off one of his hands, reported Apple Daily Hong Kong.
Chen has apparently been targeted by the triads after hundreds of obscene photos of him and several female celebrities like Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan and Gillian became very public online.

The photos were stolen from his laptop computer and posted on the Internet. A person calling himself "Kira" has been the key figure in the release of the release of the pictures online. On Sunday, more photos of Chen and Chan were circulated online.

Apple Daily HK, quoting a police source, reported that someone is planning to harm Chen when he returns.Speculations are that the triad link members of his current girlfriend's family are among those who want to hurt Edison. His girlfriend, Vincy Yeung is one of the victims and her father and uncle are members of the triad/leader of the triad so to say.

Chen is now lying low in Boston, on the advice of his management company, Media Asia. Vincy Yeung attends university in Boston.Edison planned to return to Hong Kong last Saturday and hold a press conference on Sunday, but pulled out at the last minute, saying he had something to attend to.

The other reason was that AIG Building in Hong Kong's Central district allegedly declined to lease its premises for Chen's press conference, citing security reasons.
In addition there are reports that Hong Kong based movie investors have black-listed Edison Chen, temporarily will not consider hiring him.

The source told Apple Daily HK that the underworld figure who offered the reward is targeting not only Edison, but also all other persons involved in distributing the photos. Kira better watch out because the Hong Kong underworld wants a piece of him too.

The police are said to be treating the informers' reports seriously and that it is keeping the said underworld figure under surveillance.Chen is said to be keen to fly back to Hong Kong as soon as possible as he wants to resolve the fall-out quickly.But his management company reportedly decided to err on the side of caution by ensuring that his security would be taken care of, before allowing him to return.

Media Asia plans to hire bodyguards to give Chen 24-hour protection and for him to stay at a safe place.The company is believed to have asked Chen to be patient and wait for the security arrangements to be confirmed before flying back.Meanwhile, Chung made an appearance on a Hong Kong charity show on TV. Her second public appearance since the scandal erupted three weeks ago.

She was the first singer for the show on Sunday and even stood in the center during the group singing.However, Apple Daily HK reported that some angry netizens complained about her appearance to the Hong Kong Broadcasting Authority. Over 2,000 complaints have been filed by the public against the appearance of Gillian Chung on Sunday’s TVB show to raise money for the victims of China’s recent snow storms. The complainants said it was inappropriate for her to appear on TV so soon after the scandal. Gillian has apologized to her fans but refused to confirm if she was the one in the pictures.

Edison 2nd attempt on suicide

China Press said Tuesday February 12, 2008 that the singer-actor became depressed over the sex scandal issue and avoided eating food for days in depression and fear. He had also reportedly confined himself to his home in the United States for days, where he fled to after the controversy erupted. Newspapers have reported that Edison Chen’s image hit rock bottom after the scandal came to light. Several companies which had sought Chen’s endorsement for their products have also terminated their contracts with the star. I personally think that this entire attempting suicide claim from Edison Chen is a bid for the suicide sympathy vote. Cause if he really wanted to die, Edison would have showed his face in Hong Kong over the weekend. I mean why attempt to kill yourself if they are hundreds of Triads gangster willing to do it for you. If Edison had a dead wish, his lawyers would not be proposing a deal with police for 24-hour police protection, a safe house and a guarantee of his status as a witness. He seems like a man concern about his safe and he want certain guarantees before he return to answer questions in Hong Kong. Some other interesting guarantees demanded by Edison Chen from the Hong Kong Police come from fears of being turned into a suspect after the police investigate the case further. He wants a guarantee he will not be charge under any circumstance after he return as a witness. The media revealed yesterday that Edison Chen had been actually proposing to Vincy Yeung all this time while in Boston. Edison proposed to Vincy that they should get married, not once but at least four times. He hoped to use the marriage as a base to turn over a new leaf and even sought to threaten slitting his wrists to “force” Vincy to accept. But following discussions with her family, Vincy rejected his proposal firmly. It is believe that the male members of Vincy Yeung family are who Edison fear the most, especially her father and uncle. Albert Yeung, Vincy’s uncle, is reportedly furious with Edison and with Albert Yeung reported Triad gangster connections his angry is not to be taken lightly. Vincy Yeung's hand in marriage most likely will protect Edison from her Triad linked father and especially her dangerous uncle. Edison Chen told the Police that if he returned to Hong Kong, he will be in danger because people threatened him. Some of these threats are said to be very personal and made directly to Edison. The male lead in the sex picture scandal of artistes, Edison Chen, has fled to the US after the scandal was made public. He fled before the more sensitive photos of his girlfriend were released. His location is a mystery to the public. But some newspapers have an inside source to his location. For many days, Edison has proposed many times to his girlfriend Vincy Yeung. It was to show that he has changed his ways. He even engaged in cutting his wrists to threaten his girlfriend into marriage by killing himself. It seems that Vincy wanted to marry him but she refused the marriage proposals after consulting with her family. The Hong Kong police and his management company combined forces to force a timetable on Edison’s return. But it was rumored that he suddenly made a change in plan to go to Vancouver instead when the threats on his life started rolling in on his return. Edison is the target of public angst. The sex pictures were leaked onto the internet on the early morning of January 28th. He secretly left Hong Kong to the US to avoid the media glare. According to reliable sources, Edison left on a plane to Boston on that very day. He went to explain to his girlfriend who is attending the Boston University. He wanted to point out that he was a victim. He also declared that he was innocent and etc. to make his girlfriend change her mind. Vincy’s family was against Edison’s visit in Boston. Edison stayed in a hotel instead of staying with Vincy and her family. Inside sources at Boston said that Edison wanted to see Vincy a lot and proposed to her many times during his stay in Boston. He wanted to show his determination and even threatened her with death. He cut himself a couple of times in front of her and requested that she marries him. In a past interview, he boasted that Vincy’s dad wanted him to have US$ 20 million when he was 32 years old so Edison can slowly leave the entertainment industry and marry Vincy. But the sex picture scandal exploded and couldn’t be stopped. Edison wanted to keep the relationship going so he is using suicide to force a wedding. But Vincy’s family is extremely dissatisfied with his actions; in the end, Vincy refused Edison Chen’s marriage proposal and told him to give up on that thought. Some have speculated that that the reason for Edison's urgency to marry Vincy may be the only way he can protect himself from the Triads and safely return to Hong Kong. He told his lawyers that he wanted to help his mom move houses so he can’t return to Hong Kong yet. He did not specify a return date. They all have advised Edison to return to Hong Kong as quickly as possible. There are rumors that someone has ordered Edison’s death. Edison has received calls for him to return to Hong Kong. After some time, he originally stated that he would return after spending Valentine’s Day with his girlfriend Vincy. The original plan was to take a flight on February 15th (US time) to return to Hong Kong to help solve the problems. But he changed his mind at the last minute. It is clear that Edison has nothing to gain returning to Hong Kong at this point with the fall in his image but everything to lose. It’s believed that instead of flying back to Hong Kong Sunday, he has gone to Vancouver, Canada to help his mother move to another place to the media glare and also take temporary refuge for some relief. He was also worried that he would be under police investigation after assisting the police’s investigation. So he is in a tug of war game with the police. Powerful Hong Kong entertainment companies will lose millions of dollars as a result of this sex scandal. These companies might push for police action against Chen as payback for his actions that cause the scandal.
